Some Stones Hit

When I was young I wanted nothing more than to be the QB of the football team, especially in High School. I just looked at these guys in AWE!  They were the studs. I imagined what it would be like to lead your team to victory. What could be better, I thought. And here I am, the father of a QB. I never really thought of the burden this position carries. Victories are great, but what about defeats! No matter the reason for the defeat…as the leader of the team, there is a burden that lies with you! You already feel you let your team down, you play your mistakes over and over in your head, and then you hear the loud voices all around you persecuting you, your team, and even your coaches. I get it! I’ve done it myself and it is easy to do when you are the one throwing the stones, but we forget about the ones we hit…and we forget some are kids. As a dad it is hard to see your son get hit, but I seem to remember another Father who watched his son get hit, ridiculed, and even spit on. I tell my son to focus on that son. Take comfort in knowing you are not alone. Because that son knew the cost and yet he still took on the burden…and in the end…VICTORY!

He can throw a thousand touchdowns, run a thousand yards, or throw a thousand picks. When he stands before the Lord, it will all be worthless. But what will matter is the way he took the hits, the way he kept the charge of his Father, the way he walked in His ways. That is a true stud!

King David said these words to his son:

“So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to Him, and keep his decrees and commands, His laws and regulations, as written. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go” 1 Kings 2-3
